A Photo Safari Through Central South Carolina
In late March 2013, I took a photo safari through central South Carolina on my way to Charleston, where I was going to take photos for an article on the city's architecture. I left Pinehurst and picked up US Highway 1 in Aberdeen. At the South Carolina border, I continued to follow US 1 through Cheraw and many small towns to Camden. At Camden, I turned south on Hwy 521 and then broke off to Hwy 261 to Manning. I then took Hwy 52 south to Moncks Corner and eventually to Mount Pleasant. It had been many years since I had driven this part of Hwy 1, and I had never driven south from Camden to Charleston. I took a full day to do this, stopping wherever I saw a good shot and often meandering down side roads. Much of this area saw action during the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, and historic markers dot the highways. A safari like this gives me the chance to see the rural south up close and personal, as they say on TV, and to see things that we miss on the interstate highways. I hope you enjoy the trip. You'll be seeing my Charleston album soon.
